On the wire (SML/SMP, AS4 envelope, UBL EndpointID schemeID) the scheme and value are split: in UBL it is <cbc:EndpointID schemeID="0208">0403170701</cbc:EndpointID>, in SMP URLs it is iso6523-actorid-upis::0208:0403170701.

What is a Peppol participant identifier scheme?

It is the 4-digit ISO 6523 ICD code in front of a Peppol ID, for example 0208 in 0208:0403170701. It says which kind of number follows (a Belgian enterprise number, a German VAT number, a GLN and so on). In Peppol the full participant id is written iso6523-actorid-upis::ICD:value.

Which scheme should I use for a Belgian company?

0208 with the 10-digit enterprise number (KBO/BCE). The older 9956 (BE:CBE) is removed and 0193 (UBL.BE) is deprecated with the note 'Use 0208 instead'. Some Belgian participants are registered under 9925 (BE:VAT) instead or as well, so a lookup should try both.

What is the scheme for a German VAT number or a Leitweg-ID?

9930 (DE:VAT) for the USt-IdNr., 0204 (DE:LWID) for the Peppol Leitweg-ID used by German public buyers (9958 was replaced by 0204), and 0246 (DE:GEBA) for the German Electronic Business Address.

Which schemes are deprecated or removed?

In code list v9.7, 21 schemes are deprecated or removed, for example 9956 BE:CBE, 9958 DE:LID (replaced by 0204), 9908 NO:ORGNR (use 0192) and 9954 NL:OIN (replaced by 0190). Don't create new registrations with them; the table below lists them all.

How do I find which id a company is registered under?
